Minuteman III
The Minuteman III is an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) developed by the United States during the Cold War. It is designed to deliver nuclear warheads over long distances, with a range of approximately 8,000 miles. The missile can carry multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), allowing it to strike several targets simultaneously.
First deployed in 1970, the Minuteman III remains a key component of the U.S. nuclear deterrent strategy. It is housed in underground silos and can be launched within minutes of receiving a command, ensuring a rapid response capability in the event of a nuclear threat.
