A Kylix is a type of ancient Greek drinking cup, typically used for wine. It features a shallow bowl with a wide rim and two horizontal handles on either side. Kylixes were often beautifully decorated with intricate paintings that depicted scenes from mythology, daily life, or athletic competitions, showcasing the artistry of the time.
These cups were commonly used during symposia, which were social gatherings for men to discuss philosophy, enjoy music, and drink together. The design of the kylix allowed for easy sipping and sharing, making it a central piece in the culture of ancient Greece, alongside other items like the krater and amphora.
