Chinese Nationalist Party
The Chinese Nationalist Party, also known as the Kuomintang (KMT), is a political party in China founded in 1912 by Sun Yat-sen. It played a significant role in the early 20th century, promoting nationalism and modernization. The KMT aimed to unify China and establish a republic, opposing warlordism and foreign imperialism.
After the Chinese Civil War, the KMT retreated to Taiwan in 1949, where it continued to govern. In Taiwan, the party transitioned from an authoritarian regime to a democratic political entity, participating in elections and shaping Taiwan's political landscape. The KMT remains one of the major political parties in Taiwan today.
