Krakatau
Krakatau is a volcanic island located in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. It is famous for its catastrophic eruption in 1883, which was one of the most violent volcanic events in recorded history. The eruption caused massive tsunamis and resulted in significant loss of life, as well as global climate effects due to the ash and gases released into the atmosphere.
The island is part of the Krakatau archipelago, which includes the smaller islands of Sertung and Panjang. After the 1883 eruption, a new volcanic island, Anak Krakatau (meaning "Child of Krakatau"), emerged in 1927. This ongoing volcanic activity continues to attract scientists and tourists interested in geology and natural phenomena.
