The Kosovo War took place from 1998 to 1999, primarily between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). The conflict arose from ethnic tensions between the Serbian majority and the Albanian population in Kosovo. The KLA sought independence for Kosovo, leading to violent clashes and a humanitarian crisis. The war ended in June 1999 with a ceasefire, and Kosovo was placed under United Nations administration. Kosovo declared independence in 2008, which remains disputed by Serbia.
