Korean Empire
The Korean Empire was a short-lived state that existed from 1897 to 1910, marking the last phase of Korean sovereignty before Japanese colonization. It was established by Emperor Gojong, who declared the empire to assert Korea's independence and modernize the nation in response to foreign pressures. The empire aimed to strengthen its military and economy while fostering national pride.
During its existence, the Korean Empire faced numerous challenges, including internal strife and external threats from neighboring countries like Japan and China. Despite efforts to reform and modernize, the empire ultimately succumbed to Japanese annexation in 1910, leading to a period of colonial rule that lasted until the end of World War II.
