Emperor Gojong
Emperor Gojong was the 26th king of the Joseon Dynasty in Korea and the first emperor of the Korean Empire. He ruled from 1863 until 1907, during a time of significant change and modernization in Korea. Gojong sought to strengthen Korea's sovereignty amid increasing foreign influence, particularly from Japan and China.
Under his reign, Gojong implemented various reforms, including the establishment of a modern government and military. He declared the establishment of the Korean Empire in 1897, aiming to elevate Korea's status on the international stage. His reign ended when he was forced to abdicate in 1907 due to Japanese pressure.
