Komsomolets Island
Komsomolets Island is the largest island in the Severny Island group of the Franz Josef Land archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. It covers an area of approximately 1,200 square kilometers and is known for its rugged terrain, glaciers, and unique wildlife. The island is largely uninhabited, with only temporary research stations established by scientists studying the Arctic environment.
The island was named after the Komsomol, the youth division of the Communist Party in the former Soviet Union. It features notable geographical landmarks, including the highest peak in the archipelago, Mount Victory, which rises to about 1,200 meters above sea level.
