Kohathites
The Kohathites were a group of Levites in ancient Israel, descended from Kohath, one of the sons of Levi. Their primary role was to care for the sacred objects of the Tabernacle, including the Ark of the Covenant, the table of showbread, and the lampstand. They were responsible for transporting these items during the Israelites' journeys.
In the Book of Numbers, the Kohathites were given specific duties related to the handling and protection of these holy artifacts. Unlike other Levite families, they were not allowed to touch the items directly; instead, they covered them with special cloths before transport. This ensured the sanctity of the sacred objects.
