King of Spain
The "King of Spain" is the head of state of the Kingdom of Spain. As of October 2023, the current king is Felipe VI, who ascended to the throne in June 2014 after the abdication of his father, Juan Carlos I. The king's role is largely ceremonial, representing Spain at official events and promoting national unity.
The Spanish monarchy is a constitutional institution, meaning the king's powers are limited by the Spanish Constitution. The king also plays a role in diplomatic relations and can appoint the Prime Minister after elections, but most political power resides with elected officials.
