King Władysław III of Poland
King Władysław III of Poland, also known as Władysław the Elbow-high, was born in 1424 and became king at a young age. He ruled from 1434 until his death in 1444. Władysław was also the Grand Duke of Lithuania, and his reign was marked by efforts to strengthen the Polish-Lithuanian union and defend against external threats, particularly from the Teutonic Knights.
Władysław is perhaps best known for his participation in the Crusade against the Ottoman Empire, culminating in the Battle of Varna in 1444. Unfortunately, he was killed in this battle, which significantly impacted Poland's political landscape and its relations with the Ottoman Empire. His legacy includes attempts to unify and strengthen his kingdom during a tumultuous period.
