King Sancho I of Portugal
King Sancho I of Portugal, also known as Sancho I of Portugal, reigned from 1185 to 1211. He was the second king of Portugal, succeeding his father, Afonso I of Portugal, the founder of the kingdom. Sancho I is known for his efforts to consolidate and expand the territory of Portugal, particularly through military campaigns against the Moors.
Sancho I was also recognized for his piety and support of the Catholic Church. He earned the nickname "Sancho o Povoador," meaning "Sancho the Populator," due to his initiatives to encourage settlement in newly acquired lands. His reign helped lay the foundation for the future growth of the Portuguese state.
