King Otto I of Greece
King Otto I of Greece was born on June 1, 1815, in Dresden, Germany. He became the first king of modern Greece in 1832, following the Greek War of Independence. Otto was chosen by the Great Powers—Britain, France, and Russia—to establish a monarchy in the newly independent nation. His reign faced challenges, including political instability and opposition from various factions.
Otto's rule lasted until 1862, when he was deposed due to dissatisfaction with his governance and foreign influence. After his removal, he returned to Germany, where he lived until his death on July 26, 1867. His reign significantly shaped the early years of the Greek state.
