King Kalakaua
King Kalakaua was the last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom, serving from 1874 until his death in 1891. He is known for promoting Hawaiian culture and traditions, as well as for his efforts to modernize the islands. His reign saw the establishment of the Hawaiian Constitution of 1887, which limited the power of the monarchy and increased the influence of foreign interests.
Kalakaua was also a patron of the arts and a supporter of education. He traveled extensively, including a notable trip around the world, which helped to raise awareness of Hawaii's unique culture. His legacy includes the revival of traditional Hawaiian hula and music, which continue to be celebrated today.
