King Jaja
King Jaja, born Jaja Wachuku in 1821, was a prominent leader of the Opobo kingdom in present-day Nigeria. He rose to power in the late 19th century and became known for his strong leadership and trade acumen, particularly in the palm oil industry. His reign marked a period of economic prosperity for his kingdom.
In 1887, King Jaja was exiled by the British colonial authorities, who sought to control trade in the region. Despite his exile, he remained a symbol of resistance against colonial rule until his death in 1891. His legacy continues to be celebrated in Nigerian history.
