King Haakon VI of Norway
King Haakon VI of Norway was born on July 3, 1340, and became king in 1355. He was the son of King Magnus VI of Norway and Princess Blanche of Namur. His reign is noted for the union of Norway and Sweden, which began in 1363, although it was not fully realized until later.
Haakon VI ruled until his death in 1380. He was married to Margaret I of Denmark, who played a significant role in Scandinavian politics. After his death, Margaret became the de facto ruler, leading to the formation of the Kalmar Union that united the three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
