King Boris III
King Boris III was the ruler of Bulgaria from 1918 until his death in 1943. He ascended to the throne after the abdication of his father, Ferdinand I, and was known for his efforts to modernize the country and improve its economy. Boris III played a significant role in Bulgaria's political landscape during the interwar period, navigating complex relationships with neighboring countries and major powers.
During World War II, King Boris III initially aligned Bulgaria with the Axis Powers but sought to protect his country’s Jewish population from deportation. His reign ended abruptly when he died under mysterious circumstances, leading to significant political changes in Bulgaria and the eventual establishment of a communist regime.
