King Afonso II of Portugal
King Afonso II of Portugal, also known as Afonso II of Portugal, ruled from 1211 to 1223. He was the son of Afonso I of Portugal and Maud of Savoy. His reign was marked by conflicts with the nobility and efforts to strengthen royal authority.
Afonso II is often remembered for his attempts to consolidate power and improve the administration of the kingdom. However, his reign faced challenges, including disputes with the church and local lords. He was eventually forced to abdicate in favor of his son, Sancho II of Portugal, before his death in 1223.
