Khyra Ishaq Case
The Khyra Ishaq case refers to the tragic death of a 7-year-old girl in Birmingham, England in 2008. Khyra was subjected to severe neglect and abuse by her mother, Angela Gordon, and her mother's partner, Junaid Abuhamza. She was found dead in her home, weighing only 28 pounds, after being isolated and deprived of food and care.
The case highlighted significant failures in the social services and child protection systems, as multiple agencies had been involved with the family prior to Khyra's death. Following the investigation, both Gordon and Abuhamza were convicted of manslaughter and received lengthy prison sentences.
