Kheda Satyagraha
The Kheda Satyagraha was a non-violent protest led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1918 in the Kheda district of Gujarat, India. Farmers were struggling due to crop failure and were unable to pay the high taxes imposed by the British colonial government. Gandhi encouraged the farmers to refuse payment, advocating for their rights and relief from oppressive taxation.
The movement aimed to highlight the plight of the farmers and sought to secure a suspension of tax collection. It was significant in demonstrating the effectiveness of non-violent resistance and laid the groundwork for future movements in the Indian independence struggle.
