Kazakh National Liberation Movement
The Kazakh National Liberation Movement refers to a series of efforts by the Kazakh people to gain independence and assert their national identity, particularly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This movement emerged in response to Russian imperial expansion and policies that marginalized Kazakh culture and autonomy. Key figures, such as Akhmet Baitursynov and Alihan Bokeikhanov, played significant roles in advocating for Kazakh rights and self-determination.
The movement gained momentum after the 1917 Russian Revolution, leading to the establishment of the Alash Orda government, which sought to promote Kazakh interests. Although the movement faced challenges from both Soviet authorities and external pressures, it laid the groundwork for future efforts toward independence, culminating in Kazakhstan's eventual sovereignty in 1991.
