Katla
Katla is a large, active volcano located in southern Iceland. It is part of the Vatnajökull National Park and is known for its massive ice cap, which covers the summit. The volcano has erupted numerous times throughout history, with its last significant eruption occurring in 1918.
The volcano is closely monitored due to its potential for future eruptions, which could trigger glacial floods called jökulhlaups. These floods occur when volcanic activity melts the ice, causing large amounts of water to flow rapidly. Katla is an important site for both geological research and tourism in Iceland.
