Kano Jigoro
Kano Jigoro was a Japanese educator and martial artist, best known as the founder of judo. Born on October 28, 1860, he developed judo as a modern martial art that emphasizes technique and skill over brute strength. Kano aimed to create a system that could be practiced safely and effectively, promoting physical education and moral development.
In addition to his contributions to martial arts, Kano was an advocate for education and served as a member of the Japanese Olympic Committee. He played a significant role in introducing judo to the world, helping it gain international recognition and establishing it as an Olympic sport in 1964.
