Kakuma Refugee Camp
The Kakuma Refugee Camp is located in northwestern Kenya and was established in 1992. It provides shelter and support for thousands of refugees fleeing conflict and persecution from neighboring countries, including South Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia. The camp is managed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and offers essential services such as food, healthcare, and education.
As of 2023, Kakuma hosts over 200,000 refugees, making it one of the largest camps in the world. The camp is divided into several zones, each accommodating different nationalities and communities. Despite challenges, residents engage in various activities, including vocational training and cultural exchanges, to foster resilience and hope.
