K-27
K-27 was a Soviet nuclear submarine, notable for being one of the first to be equipped with a nuclear reactor. Launched in 1960, it was part of the Soviet Navy and played a significant role during the Cold War. The submarine was designed for long-range missions and could carry ballistic missiles, enhancing the Soviet Union's strategic capabilities.
Tragically, K-27 suffered a reactor accident in 1968, leading to the loss of several crew members and significant radiation exposure. The submarine was eventually decommissioned and sank during a towing operation in 1989. Its legacy remains a reminder of the risks associated with nuclear technology in military applications.
