Justification Defenses
Justification defenses are legal arguments used in criminal cases where the defendant admits to committing an act but claims it was necessary to prevent a greater harm. Common examples include self-defense, where a person uses force to protect themselves from imminent danger, and necessity, where an individual breaks the law to avoid a more significant threat, such as saving a life.
These defenses focus on the idea that the actions taken were reasonable under the circumstances. The law recognizes that sometimes individuals must make difficult choices to protect themselves or others, and justification defenses aim to show that these choices were not only understandable but also legally acceptable.
