July 20 Plot
The July 20 Plot was an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944, during World War II. A group of German military officers and civilians, including Claus von Stauffenberg, aimed to kill Hitler and overthrow the Nazi regime. They believed that removing Hitler was essential to saving Germany and negotiating peace with the Allies.
The plot involved placing a bomb in a briefcase during a meeting at the Wolf's Lair, Hitler's headquarters in East Prussia. Although the bomb exploded, Hitler survived with minor injuries. The failure of the plot led to severe reprisals, with many conspirators executed or imprisoned.
