Juan Bautista Alvarado
Juan Bautista Alvarado was a prominent political figure in early California history. Born in 1809, he served as the Governor of California from 1836 to 1837. Alvarado was known for his efforts to promote the interests of the Californio community, which consisted of descendants of Spanish settlers.
During his governorship, Alvarado faced challenges from both American settlers and Mexican authorities. He played a significant role in the transition of California from Mexican to American control, particularly during the Bear Flag Revolt in 1846. His leadership and decisions were influential in shaping the region's future.
