Joseph Caro
Joseph Caro was a prominent Jewish scholar and rabbi, best known for his work in Jewish law and philosophy. He lived during the 16th century in Safed, a city in modern-day Israel, which was a center for Jewish learning and mysticism. His most famous work, the Shulchan Aruch, serves as a comprehensive code of Jewish law and is widely studied and followed by Jewish communities around the world.
Caro was born in Spain and later moved to Portugal before settling in Safed after the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492. His contributions to Jewish legal literature have had a lasting impact, and he is often regarded as one of the most important halakhic authorities in Jewish history.
