It was established in 2017, combining the efforts of two previous organizations: the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and the Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG). JVET aims to create efficient video compression technologies to improve video quality and reduce bandwidth usage.
JVET is responsible for the development of the Versatile Video Coding (VVC) standard, which is designed to support a wide range of applications, from streaming services to video conferencing. The team consists of experts from various countries and organizations, collaborating to advance video technology for global use.
