John of the Ladder
John of the Ladder, also known as John Climacus, was a 7th-century Christian monk and ascetic. He is best known for his spiritual work titled "The Ladder of Divine Ascent," which outlines a path of spiritual growth and moral development. This text is structured as a ladder with thirty rungs, each representing a step toward achieving a closer relationship with God.
John lived on the Mount Sinai and became a revered figure in the Eastern Orthodox Church. His teachings emphasize the importance of virtues such as humility, repentance, and love, guiding monks and laypeople alike in their spiritual journeys. His feast day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent.
