John of Nepomuk
John of Nepomuk was a 14th-century Czech priest and martyr, known for his strong commitment to the confessional seal. He served as a vicar in Prague and became a prominent figure in the Catholic Church. His refusal to disclose the secrets of the confessional led to his execution, making him a symbol of fidelity to the sacrament of confession.
He was canonized as a saint in 1729 and is the patron saint of Bohemia and bridges. His feast day is celebrated on March 20. Statues and images of John of Nepomuk often depict him with a halo of five stars, representing his martyrdom and sanctity.
