John Rolfe was an English settler in North America, best known for his role in the early development of the Virginia colony. He arrived in Jamestown in 1610 and is credited with introducing a new strain of tobacco that became highly profitable, transforming the colony's economy.
In addition to his agricultural contributions, Rolfe is also known for his marriage to Pocahontas, the daughter of the Powhatan chief. Their union in 1614 helped establish a period of peace between the English settlers and the Powhatan Confederacy, making Rolfe a significant figure in early American history.
