John Erskine, Earl of Mar
John Erskine, Earl of Mar (1675–1732), was a Scottish nobleman and politician. He played a significant role in the early 18th century, particularly during the {Jacobite} uprisings. As a prominent supporter of the {Stuart} claim to the throne, he was involved in the {1715 Rising}, which aimed to restore the exiled royal family.
Mar was appointed as the commander of the Jacobite forces but faced challenges in uniting various factions. After the failure of the uprising, he fled to {France} and later returned to Scotland, where he continued to influence politics until his death.
