John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset
John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset (c. 1404–1444), was an English nobleman and a prominent figure during the early 15th century. He was the son of John Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset and Margaret Holland, and he played a significant role in the political landscape of England. He was created Earl of Somerset in 1443 and served as a military commander during the Hundred Years' War.
As a member of the House of Beaufort, John Beaufort was a descendant of John of Gaunt, the Duke of Lancaster. His lineage connected him to the royal family, which influenced his political power. He was involved in various military campaigns and held several important positions, including serving as the governor of Calais.
