Jodo
Jodo is a traditional Japanese martial art that focuses on the use of a wooden staff, known as a jo, which is approximately 128 centimeters long. Practitioners, called jodoka, learn various techniques to defend against an opponent armed with a sword, typically a katana. The art emphasizes fluid movements, timing, and distance management, making it both a physical and mental discipline.
Originating from the teachings of Miyamoto Musashi, a famous swordsman, Jodo was developed in the early 17th century. It combines elements of strategy and philosophy, promoting self-discipline and respect. Today, Jodo is practiced worldwide, with many schools and organizations dedicated to its preservation and promotion.
