Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck
Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is the current King of Bhutan, having ascended the throne on December 14, 2006. Born on February 21, 1980, he is the son of the previous king, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, and Queen Ashi Tshering Pem Wangchuck. He studied at prestigious institutions, including Oxford University and Dartmouth College.
As king, he has focused on modernizing Bhutan while preserving its unique culture and traditions. He is known for promoting the concept of Gross National Happiness, which emphasizes the well-being of citizens over purely economic growth. His leadership has been marked by efforts to enhance democracy and sustainable development in the country.
