Gross National Happiness
Gross National Happiness (GNH) is a holistic approach to measuring the well-being and happiness of a population, rather than just focusing on economic indicators like Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It was first introduced in the 1970s by the fourth king of Bhutan, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, as a way to prioritize the spiritual and emotional well-being of citizens alongside economic growth.
GNH encompasses various dimensions, including sustainable development, cultural preservation, environmental conservation, and good governance. By evaluating these aspects, GNH aims to create a balanced and harmonious society where individuals can thrive, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling life for all members of the community.
