Jaw Structure
The jaw structure consists primarily of two main bones: the mandible (lower jaw) and the maxilla (upper jaw). The mandible is the only movable bone in the skull, allowing for actions like chewing and speaking. It connects to the skull at the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which facilitates movement.
The maxilla supports the upper teeth and forms part of the eye sockets and nasal cavity. Both the mandible and maxilla are essential for proper alignment of teeth and overall oral function. Healthy jaw structure is crucial for effective digestion and communication.
