Jasus edwardsii
Jasus edwardsii, commonly known as the New Zealand rock lobster or crayfish, is a species of marine crustacean found primarily around the coasts of New Zealand. It inhabits rocky reefs and is known for its distinctive long antennae and spiny exoskeleton. This species is a popular seafood choice and is often harvested for commercial purposes.
The New Zealand rock lobster typically grows to about 60 centimeters in length and can live for over 20 years. It feeds on a diet of algae, mollusks, and other small marine organisms. Due to its economic importance, Jasus edwardsii is subject to strict fishing regulations to ensure sustainable populations.
