Japanese swordsmanship
Japanese swordsmanship, known as kenjutsu, is the traditional martial art of using the katana, a curved, single-edged sword. This practice emphasizes techniques for striking, blocking, and disarming opponents, often focusing on precision, timing, and control.
In modern times, kendo has evolved from kenjutsu into a sport that uses bamboo swords and protective gear. Practitioners, called kendoka, engage in sparring matches that emphasize discipline, respect, and the spirit of competition, while still honoring the historical roots of Japanese swordsmanship.
