Jakob Fugger, also known as Jakob Fugger the Rich, was a prominent German banker and merchant in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Born in 1459 in Augsburg, he became one of the wealthiest individuals of his time, primarily through his investments in mining and trade. Fugger's financial acumen allowed him to lend money to various European monarchs, including Maximilian I of the Holy Roman Empire.
Fugger was also known for his philanthropic efforts, funding various charitable projects and supporting the arts. His legacy includes the establishment of the Fuggerei, a social housing complex in Augsburg that still exists today, providing affordable housing for the less fortunate.
