Jaintia
The Jaintia are an indigenous ethnic group primarily found in the northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya. They are known for their rich cultural heritage, which includes traditional music, dance, and festivals. The Jaintia Hills region, where they reside, is characterized by its scenic landscapes and limestone caves.
The Jaintia people primarily speak the Jaintia language, which is part of the Austroasiatic language family. Their society is matrilineal, meaning lineage and inheritance are traced through the mother. Agriculture, particularly rice cultivation, is a significant part of their economy, along with traditional crafts and mining activities.
