Jacques Cœur
Jacques Cœur was a prominent French merchant and financier in the 15th century, known for his significant contributions to the economy of France. Born around 1395, he became wealthy through trade and established a successful business in textiles and luxury goods. His financial acumen led him to serve as the royal treasurer under King Charles VII.
Cœur was also a notable figure in the development of Bourges, where he built a grand mansion that showcased his wealth and influence. However, his fortunes changed when he fell out of favor with the king, leading to his arrest and exile in 1451. He died in 1456 while on a pilgrimage.
