Jōdo-shū
Jōdo-shū is a school of Pure Land Buddhism founded in Japan by Hōnen in the late 12th century. It emphasizes the practice of chanting the nembutsu, which is the invocation of Amitābha Buddha, as a means to attain rebirth in the Pure Land, a realm of enlightenment.
The teachings of Jōdo-shū focus on faith and devotion rather than complex rituals or meditation practices. Followers believe that by sincerely reciting the nembutsu, they can achieve salvation and ultimately reach enlightenment, making it accessible to all, regardless of their spiritual background or abilities.
