Izanagi is a prominent deity in Japanese mythology, known as the creator of the Japanese islands and the father of many gods. He, along with his sister and wife Izanami, descended from the heavens to form the land of Nihon (Japan) and gave birth to various deities, including Amaterasu, the sun goddess. After the death of Izanami, Izanagi journeyed to the underworld, Yomi, to retrieve her.
