Amaterasu is the sun goddess in Japanese mythology, revered as one of the principal deities in the Shinto religion. She is known for bringing light to the world and is often associated with the imperial family of Japan, believed to be her descendants. Her full name, Amaterasu-ōmikami, translates to 'Great Goddess Amaterasu'. According to legend, Amaterasu hid in a cave, plunging the world into darkness.
