Ituri Rainforest
The Ituri Rainforest is a vast tropical rainforest located in the northeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Covering approximately 63,000 square kilometers, it is one of the largest rainforests in Africa. The region is known for its rich biodiversity, housing numerous species of plants, animals, and insects, many of which are endemic to the area.
This rainforest is home to various indigenous communities, including the Mbuti pygmies, who have lived in harmony with the forest for thousands of years. The Ituri Rainforest plays a crucial role in the global ecosystem, contributing to carbon storage and climate regulation while also providing resources for local populations.
