Ituri Forest
The Ituri Forest is a tropical rainforest located in the northeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It covers an area of approximately 63,000 square kilometers and is known for its rich biodiversity, including various species of plants, animals, and insects. The forest is part of the larger Congo Basin, which is one of the world's largest rainforest regions.
Home to indigenous communities, such as the Mbuti pygmies, the Ituri Forest plays a crucial role in their culture and livelihood. The forest is also significant for its unique ecosystems, including swampy areas and rivers, which support a variety of wildlife, such as forest elephants and okapis. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect this vital habitat from deforestation and other environmental threats.
