Italian Secondary Schools
Italian secondary schools, known as scuole secondarie, typically cater to students aged 11 to 19. They are divided into two main types: scuola secondaria di primo grado (lower secondary) and scuola secondaria di secondo grado (upper secondary). The lower secondary lasts three years, while the upper secondary lasts five years, culminating in the Esame di Stato, a national exam required for university admission.
Upper secondary schools offer various programs, including liceo (academic), istituto tecnico (technical), and istituto professionale (vocational). Each program prepares students for different career paths or further education. The curriculum includes subjects like Italian language, mathematics, and foreign languages, ensuring a well-rounded education.
